The story was called "Quandary of Hidden Disabilities: Conceal or Reveal." (Click on the link to read.) The premise of the piece was that companies often discriminate unintentionally. I offered some suggestions for preventing that inadvertent bias. It's a tricky question all around.
The story had an active afterlife on the web, and I received a lot of mail addressed to me personalty. On my other blog, "What I Hear," which appears on the Psychology Today web site (and is seen by readers in general as well as those with hearing loss), I've posted one of the most interesting of the letters I received. Here's a link to that post-- Hidden Disability and Workplace Bias -- and to the letter, from an attorney in Atlanta who is well versed in discrimination law.
This is a deeply vexing issue for many many people.
